The Manaslu and Tsum Valley Trek is a combination trek of Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley. This trek offers stunning mountain vistas, diverse landscapes and Tibetan influenced traditions

Seasonal Information:

The best season for this trek is spring and autumn. In the spring season, the weather is pleasant with clear skies. You can see blooming rhododendrons and greenery vegetation. The temperature is moderate. You can witness clear visibility of mountains. Likewise, in the autumn season, the weather is stable and trails are dry. You can see the clear view of mountains. It also comes under the festive season where you can experience cultural insights. The temperature is cooler especially at high altitudes. 

Similarly, other seasons for this trek are winter and  monsoon. In the winter season, the weather is challenging. You can see trails are snow covered. There is little availability of teahouses. Likewise in monsoon, heavy rainfall takes place, due to which the trails are slippery and there is also the high risk of landslides. So this season is not recommended. 

Cultural and Natural Insights:

The route passes through Gurung, Sherpa, Magar villages so you can explore the Buddhists culture which is highly influenced by Tibetan. You can explore monasteries, mani walla, and prayer flags. You can enjoy the hospitality of locals and enjoy the local meals. This region is highly influenced by Tibetan Buddhisim. Tsum Valley is also known as Hidden Valley. It is culturally rich. You can witness villages practicing Tibetan Buddhism in Tsum Valley. Naturally, the trek offers diverse landscapes from subtropical forests to alpine meadows and high altitude terrain. You can enjoy the panoramic view of Mount Manaslu, Himalchuli and Ngadi Chuli. It is also the home for wildlife species like snow leopard, red panda, and Himalayan Tahr. You get to cross Larkya La Pass which is the high altitude pass. This pass offers the views of surrounding peaks. 

Preparation Guide:

  1. For Physical fitness: This trek is suitable for beginners also with many ascents and descents . So you need to be physically fit to walk for long hours.

  2. For packing list:

    1. For clothes, you need layered clothing like thermal, jackets, base layer, fleece.

    2. For footwear, waterproof trekking boots with good grip is needed.

    3. For gear, you need trekking poles, headlamp, and a day pack.

    4. Sunscreen, power banks, sunglasses, water purification tablets are required.

Short Itinerary ( 19 days )

Your journey starts from a long scenic drive to Machha Khola. You’ll pass through forests, small villages, and suspension bridges. Distance: 14km, walking hours: 6-7, altitude loss: 500 m.

You’ll trek through Gandaki river, cross suspension bridges, and walk through forests. You’ll pass villages like Khorlabesi and Tatopani to reach Jagat. It is the entry checkpoint to the Manaslu Conservation Area. Distance: 22km, walking hours: 6-7, altitude gain: 440m.

 

You’ll trek through the restricted Tsum Valley area. You can see the views of Shringi Himal. Lokpa is the first village of Tsum Valley. Distance: 16km, Walking hours: 6-7, altitude gain: 900 m.

You’ll ascend through rhododendron forest to reach Chumling. Chumling is a Tibetan village with beautiful mani walls. Distance: 12km, walking hours: 5-6, altitude gain: 146m.

The route passes through pine forests. You’ll cross suspension bridges. After you reach Chhokang Paro, you can witness the stunning views of Ganesh Himal. Distance: 14km, walking hours: 6-7, altitude gain: 645m. 

You’ll visit Milarepa Cave and You’ll trek through villages before reaching Nile. The Nile is the last settlement in Tsum Valley. Distance: 14km, walking hours: 5-6, altitude gain: 330m.

You’ll visit Mu Gompa which is the highest monastery in Tsum Valley. After that you’ll return back to Chhokang Paro. Distance: 16km, walking hours: 6-7, altitude gain: 339m, altitude loss: 669m.

You’ll trek to Lopa passing through forests, suspension bridges. You can witness the beautiful mountain views in Lokpa. Distance: 16km, walking hours: 6-7, altitude loss: 791 m.

 

You’re back on Manaslu Circuit. The route crosses multiple suspension bridges and passes through pine forest. Distance: 16km, waking hour: 6-7, altitude loss: 380 m.

You’ll enter the high alpine region. You can see the views of Shringi Himal. You’ll pass through Bamboo forests and cross several bridges. Numrung is a village with Tibetan influence, monasteries, and excellent mountain views.  Distance: 19km, walking hours: 6-7, altitude gain: 770 m.

 

You’ll trek through pine and rhododendron forests. You’ll pass through villages like Lihi before arriving at Lho. Lho offers the clear view of Mount Manaslu. You can visit Ribung Monastery. Distance: 11km, walking hours: 4-5, altitude gain: 550m.

You’ll pass through Shyala village before reaching Samagaon. It is the largest village in the region. Distance: 17km, walking hours: 4-5, altitude gain: 350m.

 

You can rest for the day or you can hike to Manaslu Base Camp or visit Birendra Lake. You can also explore the Tibetan influenced culture village.

You’ll have a scenic trek through landscapes to reach samdo. Samdo offers insights into the Tibetan community. Distance: 16km, walking hours: 3-4, altitude gain: 345m.

You’ll climb, crossing the river before reaching Dharamsala. It is the base camp for Larkya La Pass. Distance: 12km, walking hours: 4-5, altitude: 585m.

You’ll cross Larkya La Pass which offers views of Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, and Annapurna II. Distance: 24km, walking hours: 8-10, altitude gain and loss: 646m.

You’ll cross rivers and pass scenic villages like Gowa and Tilije. Dharapani intersects with the Annapurna Circuit Trail and has more developed facilities. Distance: 26km, walking hours: 7-8, altitude gain: 1860m.

 

You’ll have a scenic drive through the river, valley, and Besi Sahar to reach Kathmandu. Distance: 220km, duration: 9-19 hrs, altitude loss: 460m.

You’ll rest for the day or you can explore Kathmandu city. This concludes your journey.
