Lobuche East Peak Climbing is one of the most famous peaks in the Khumbu region. It stands at an altitude of 6119 m. The trek passes through high passes like Renjo La Pass and Cho La Pass

It starts from Lukla passing through several Sherpa villages. You’ll be diverted from the EBC trail. You’ll cross Renjo La Pass, Gokyo Lake. Then you’ll ascend to Gokyo Ri . then Cho La Pass.  Hike to EBC and Kala Pathar. You’ll head towards Lobuche High Camp to be prepared for the summit of Lobuche High Camp. It offers you the panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Cholatse, Pumori and many other peaks. You’ll follow the same route to return toNamche Bazaar and Lukla. Then you’ll take a flight to Kathmandu.

Seasonal Information:

The best season to climb Lobuche East Peak is in spring and autumn. During the spring season, the temperature is mild, it ranges from 15 celsius to 20 celsius and you can see blooming rhododendron forests. You can witness the stunning views of Annapurna Massif along with other peaks. The lower region of Lobuche is filled with wildflowers, green vegetation, and wildlife and birdlife.  Likewise in the autumn season, there is clear visibility. The temperature at Lobuche ranges from 12 celsius to 20 celsius. The weather is also stable and the trails are dry. You don’t need to be worried about the harsh alpine environment. Autumn is one of the popular seasons for trekking. 

The other seasons are winter and monsoon. Experienced trekkers and climbers can go for adventure in winter. It is extremely cold at higher altitudes. You can see snow covered trails. Likewise in the  monsoon, heavy rainfall takes place. There is a possibility of landslides which could make the trekking difficult. It is least recommended for trekkers and climbers. 

Accommodation and Food: 

Tea houses and lodges are available in villages like Chame, Pisang and Manang. You have to camp at higher altitudes like in Base camp, Camo I, Camp II. Camping materials are provided by organized expeditions. In tea houses, hot showers and wifi are available. The tea houses contain beds, pillows, blankets, and a bathroom. 

For food, a common breakfast option is Tibetan breads, Chapati with cheese, Oatmeal, French toast with jam, honey, and peanut butter. There is availability of vegetable items and hot drinks except espresso, Americano. . 

Common Lunch options: Dal bhat, momos, Macaroni, Spaghetti, Sherpa Stew, soups, steaks, sandwiches, pizza, rice with curry. 

Altitude Sickness: 

There is a high chance of altitude sickness at higher altitudes. The primary symptoms of altitude sickness are:

  1. Lack of appetite, nausea

  2. Shortness of breath

  3. Nose bleed

  4. Dizziness

  5. Shortness of breath

You can prevent the sickness by staying hydrated. You must avoid alcohol. Proper acclimatization is needed . You should also consider carrying medication like Diamox. 

Preparation Guide:

It is very crucial to be prepared for climbing. Preparation gives higher chances of successful climbing. 

  1. For Clothing: You need a down jacket, thermal layers, waterproof shell jacket and pants. You need gloves, wool socks, gaiters. 

  2. For Climbing Gears: You need Crampons and Ice Axe, harness and helmet, carabiners and ropes, mountaineering boots.

  3. Other Essentials: Sunglasses, headlamp and batteries, sleeping bags, trekking poles, high energy snacks. 

  4. For Physical fitness: This trek is suitable for beginners also with many ascents and descents . So you need to be physically fit to walk for long hours.

Short Itinerary ( 15 days )

You arrive in Kathmandu, transfer to a hotel. Stay overnight at a hotel.

 

Arrive at Kathmandu, transfer to hotel and after that take flight to Luka and begin our trek to Phakding.Distance:8 km, walking Hours: 3-4 hrs, altitude gain: 460 m (flight ) and altitude loss: 250m

 

Trek to Namche Bazar crossing several suspension bridges that include the iconic Hillary bridge  and stay overnight at a guest house.Distance: 10-12 km, Walking Hours: 5-6 hr trek, Altitude Gain: 830 m

We’ll hike to the hotel Everest view (3,8880 m) for the stunning view of mount everest and return. Distance:5-6 km, Walking Hours: 2-3 hrs, Altitude Gain: 440m

Following the route, we’ll trek to Tengboche(3,860 m), to visit Tengboche Monastery, which is one of the most crucial manastries in the region that takes 5-6 hrs of trek and stay overnight in the guesthouse. Distance: 10-12 km, Walking Hours: 5-6 hr, Altitude Gain: 420 m

 

Now descending to the Imja Khola river, then ascending to Dingboche that takes 5-6 hrs of trek. Enjoy the views of Ama Dablam, Island Peak, and other towering peaks. Distance: 10-12 km, Walking Hours: 5-6 hr, Altitude Gain: 550 m

Day 6 is about the rest day or you can do a short hike to Nagarjun hill and see the epic view of Makalu, Island Peak, and Lobuche East. Return to Dingboche and stay overnight at a tea house. Distance: 3-4 km (round trip), walking hours: 3-4 hrs, altitude gain and loss: 690 m

 

Moving forward to Lobuche, stop at the Thukla Pass memorial site honoring the climbers who lost their lives on Everest. Trekking time would be 5-6 hrs.Distance: 7-8 km, Walking Hour: 5-6 hr, Altitude Gain: 500 m.

 

We'll trek to reach East Base Camp(4950 m) passing along Khumbu Glacier and celebrating the achievement, enjoying the views of icefall and towering peaks.Distance: 4 km, Walking Hours: 2-3 hr, Altitude Gain: 40 m.

You’ll ascend through rocky terrain to reach High camo. Stay overnight at the high camp. Distance: 3km, walking hours: 3-4, altitude gain: 450m.

You’ll attend summit Lobuche East Peak in the early morning. You’ll witness the panoramic views of the surrounding areas from the summit. You’ll trek back to Base camp and stay overnight at the camp. Distance: 6km, walking hours: 10-12, altitude gain: 719m, altitude loss: 1169 m.

You’ll descend through Lobuche and Periche to reach Pangboche. Once you reach Pangboche, you’ll stay overnight at a tea house. Distance: 15km, walking hours: 6-7, altitude loss: 965m.

On the 13th day you’ll descend down to Namche Bazaar through Tengboche. You can witness the lush green vegetation around the surrounding area as you trek back. You’ll pass several Sherpa villages and cross suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi Khola. Altitude loss: 490 m.

Again trek to Lukla through forests and cross suspension bridge. The trekking time would be 7-8 hrs and stay overnight in Lukla. Distance: 10-12 km, Walking Hours: 7-8 hr, Altitude Loss: 600-700 m.

 

You'll have an early morning flight back to Kathmandu from Tenzing Hillary Airport. You can witness the aerial mountain views while coming back to Kathmandu. You can explore the city and rest for the day. This concludes the journey.
