Taplejung Pathivara Height

Nepal Outdoor Expeditions || September 10, 2025

Pathivara Devi Temple (also called Pathivara Height), is one of the most popular pilgrimages in eastern Nepal. Located in Taplejung at an altitude of 3,794 meters, it hosts thousands of visitors every year. The shrine is regarded as a formidable Shakti Peetha where offerings prayed for a child, riches, and good fortune are believed to be fulfilled.

In addition to being a religiously significant location the site is a natural viewpoint. From elevation the views of the snow-covered peaks Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Everest and Lhotse on a clear day. There was a trek encompassing faith and culture and the Himalayas.

How to Get to Pathivara Devi Temple

This holy temple exists in western Taplejung District at 3,794 m, hidden in the mountains of eastern Nepal. It starts in Kafle Pati, which you can arrive at by road from the center of Phungling Bazaar.

Once at Kafle Pati, you will follow a wonderful trail that moves up for approximately 3-6 hours. The trail cuts through dense forest filled with small mountain ponds and multi-colored prayer flags that mark the route to your shrine. The journey itself is a pilgrimage of sorts as you ascend your way to this holy mounded destination.

You can get to Pathivara in two ways: The quicker method involves flying into Suketar Airport from Kathmandu. After that, you arrange ground transport to get you to Kafle Pati. Why fly? Because it saves time! The second, longer option is to commence your overland journey from Kathmandu, travelling to Dharan, then on to Dhankuta, continuing to Basantapur, and finishing up in Taplejung. This route takes you on a longer trip through eastern Nepal, but sessions along the way are picturesque.

Regardless of your route, the professed dedication and preparation are an important part of the journey and the overall philosophy of reaching the Pathivara Devi Temple mountain shrine. It will feel rewarding.

The Experiences of Pathivara Height

Your experience focuses on the emotionally intense experience of worshipping at the holy Pathivara Devi Temple at a sacred site with centuries of worship and immense spiritual energy. The early morning experience has magical elements as you witness the sunrise igniting the Himalayan giants into gold, with view after view expanding endlessly to the highest mountains on the planet.

During the spring visits, you are also hiking through the superbly colorful rhododendron forests, bursting with color and beauty on the mountain trail. You will also be entirely in the realm of authentic cultural experiences, embracing the warm traditions of the Limbu people and engaging with their hospitality and customs while moving through their way of life.

Other experiences exist beyond the temple, where hiking opportunities exist in peaceful monasteries tucked in the mountain, hidden waterfalls spilling down steep rocky columns, and more traditional villages representing life well represented for generations. Each of these experiences creates depth for your visit while blending spirituality with nature and culture, culminating in an experience of a lifetime in the mountains.

Essential Travel Details

Getting There: Fly from Kathmandu to Suketar Airport, then drive to Kafle Pati trailhead, or take the scenic overland route through Dharan, Dhankuta, Basantapur, and Taplejung for a full road adventure.

Where to Stay: Simple teahouses and basic lodges are scattered along the trekking route, providing warm meals and beds when you need to rest.

What to Pack: Bring warm layers for the high altitude, sturdy trekking shoes for the mountain trail, energy snacks for the climb, and your camera to capture those incredible Himalayan views.

The facilities are basic but comfortable enough for most travelers, and the local hospitality makes up for any lack of luxury amenities.

When to Plan Your Pathivara Journey

  • Spring(March-May) offers mountain scenery, par excellence, the rhododendron forests will bloom and fulfill their bright potential and moderate temperatures will allow for relatively easy hiking and lovely mountain views.

  • Autumn(September-November) is the best time for those who are wanting to experience the spectacular sight of the mountains for the most part of the year. The views this time of year are incomparable with blue skies and lofty peaks that look close enough to touch – this is winter and the hotshot mountain & photographer season and most incredible scenes of the year to mark on the camera's roll.

  • Winter(December-February) offers a snow-covered land with breathtaking beauty, and unless you enjoy extreme winter mountain conditions; you'll need to layer-up against temperatures to enjoy what you can as wonderful vistas abound.

  • Monsoon(June-August) - ugh, is best avoided always - the rains create wet trails and increased danger, blistering and then leeches can hijack your hiking expectations, which I'm sure you'd prefer to avoid while working on a spiritual saved trek hike

For the best experience while considering good weather and views and also comfort on your hike; plan your trek to Pathivara either during the spring bloom or autumn clarity of the foothills when mountains reveal the real magic of Pathivara.
