Starting with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Nagarkot (2,100 meters), this hike offers breathtaking views of the Himalayan ranges including Annapurna, Everest, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang, and Jugal. Nagarkot is famous for its tranquil hill station atmosphere and spectacular sunrise viewpoints.
From Nagarkot, the trail gently descends through lush green terraced fields and authentic Tamang villages, providing a glimpse into local life and culture. The hike covers a moderate distance with manageable difficulty, making it suitable for beginners and casual trekkers alike.
Your journey concludes at the sacred Changu Narayan Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its ancient pagoda architecture and intricate art. After exploring the temple and its surroundings, you’ll be driven back to Kathmandu, ending a fulfilling day immersed in nature and heritage.
The total trek covers approximately 13-15 km and takes around 4 to 5 hours depending on your pace. The trail gradually descends from Nagarkot to the Changu Narayan Temple through scenic landscapes, making it a pleasant and rewarding hike.
The ideal months for the Nagarkot Changunarayan hike are October to December and February to April when the weather is clear and the mountain views are at their best. Early mornings are perfect for catching the unforgettable sunrise from Nagarkot, so plan your hike accordingly.
