A More Authentic Experience
We build itineraries around real trails, real communities, and real pacing; not a packaged, one-size-fits-all tourist route.
Nepal Outdoor Expeditions didn't start with a business plan. It started on a trail. Aakash Shrestha, our founder, spends his working life as a software engineer, with deadlines, screens, and the constant pull of "one more task." A few years ago, he laced up his boots and went on a trek through Nepal's hills, mostly to get away from all of it for a while.
Somewhere on that trail, away from notifications and deadlines, he found something he wasn't specifically looking for: a genuine sense of peace. No deliverables, no deadlines, just the sound of his own footsteps and the mountains ahead. It was the kind of quiet that daily work rarely allows for, and it stayed with him long after he got back to his desk.So he kept going back. Trek after trek, across different regions and routes, one realization kept repeating itself: it was never really about which peak or which trail; it was the journey itself. The walking, the discomfort, the conversations with guides and fellow trekkers, the slow unwinding of a mind that's usually always "on." That was the actual point.
That realization is what led Aakash to start Nepal Outdoor Expeditions. Not to become another name in Nepal's crowded trekking industry, but to help other people- trekkers, travelers, remote workers, anyone carrying the same daily exhaustion he once had- find that same sense of peace on Nepal's trails, without the planning, permits, and logistics getting in the way of it.
With years of hands-on trekking experience behind him and a team of experienced, government-licensed local guides beside him, Aakash built Nepal Outdoor Expeditions to be exactly the kind of company he wished existed when he booked his own first trek. Locally Owned & Operated · Government Licensed · Fully Insured · Founder-Led
This is the part most travel agencies don't tell you, mostly because they haven't experienced it firsthand. Before Aakash ever thought about starting a company, he was just another trekker, booking guides, chasing permits, trying to figure out which agency to trust, and dealing with the same confusion and last-minute scrambling most travelers face before a trek. Over multiple trips, he kept noticing the same gaps: unclear communication, vague itineraries, permit delays, and a general sense that trekkers were left to figure things out on their own once the booking was done.
Those weren't small annoyances, they were the exact moments that got in the way of the peace and clarity a trek is supposed to offer in the first place. So when Aakash started Nepal Outdoor Expeditions, he built it around fixing precisely those gaps:
In short: we built Nepal Outdoor Expeditions around the support we wish we'd had as trekkers ourselves, because Aakash has stood exactly where you're standing now, trying to plan a trek and hoping the agency on the other end actually gets it.
This is the part most travel agencies can't offer, and it's worth explaining clearly. Trekking in Nepal involves more than a good guide and a nice view. It involves TIMS cards, restricted-area permits, national park entry fees, real-time weather and trail-condition tracking, multi-currency payments, and constant coordination between teams in the mountains and travelers back home. Most of that is still handled manually across the industry, through phone calls, paper trails, and guesswork.
Because Aakash's background is in software engineering, Nepal Outdoor Expeditions handles this differently:
In short: our guides know the mountains. Our founder makes sure the business behind the mountains actually works; smoothly, transparently, and without the friction travelers usually associate with booking a trek in Nepal.
We're not here to sell you a packaged version of Nepal. We're here to help you experience the trails, people, and places we call home.
Nepal Outdoor Expeditions is a locally owned Nepali company, not a franchise or a foreign agency reselling local operators. Every itinerary, guide, and route decision comes from people who actually live here.
