Detailed Itinerary
Drive to Ngadi
Description
The adventure kicks off with a long but genuinely enjoyable drive from Kathmandu—roughly 7 to 8 hours—winding alongside the Trishuli and Marsyangdi Rivers. The scenery along the way is the kind that makes you forget how long you've been sitting. By the time you pull into Ngadi, you'll be ready to kick back at a cozy teahouse, fill up on a warm meal, and get some well-earned rest before the real walking begins.
Trek to Jagat
Description
This is your first proper day on foot, and it sets a great tone for everything that follows. The trail takes you over a handful of suspension bridges, past waterfalls, and through stretches of dense forest before the path starts climbing toward Jagat. Once you're up on the cliffs, the Marsyangdi River comes into view far below, framed by rugged rocky hills on all sides. Look up and you might spot wild beehives clinging to the cliff faces—one of those small, unexpected moments that stick with you. Settle in for the night in Jagat.
Trek to Bagarchhap
Description
Today's walk moves through narrow valleys and steep terrain, surrounded by rhododendron, pine, and bamboo. The trail keeps things interesting, a bridge crossing here, a short sharp climb there—before opening out into a wider valley that feels like a reward in itself. You'll pass through Tal and walk alongside barley, wheat, and potato fields before reaching Dharapani. From there, the route turns west through fir and pine forest, eventually bringing you into the quiet village of Bagarchhap.
Trek to Chame
Description
Leaving Bagarchhap, the trail pushes on through Danaque before a steep climb rewards you with the views at Timang, Manaslu, Lamjung, Annapurna, and more spread out like a postcard you can actually stand in. The path then eases into flatter ground as you pass through a Tibetan village that feels like a natural crossing point between the lower hills and the high country ahead. From there it's a steady walk through Thanchowk and Koto before arriving in Chame, the district headquarters and a good spot to recharge.
Trek to Pisang
Description
The trail today carves through narrow gorges and thick forest before crossing a bridge that kicks off a proper climb. The effort pays off as the valley opens up ahead of you, revealing one of the more dramatic landscape shifts of the whole trip. The walking is varied enough to keep you engaged throughout, and by the time Pisang comes into view, you'll be glad to drop your pack and take it all in.
Trek to Manang
Description
From Pisang, the trail climbs toward Braga, a beautifully preserved Tibetan-style village that's home to the largest gompa in the district. It's worth slowing down here for a look inside before continuing on. As you close in on Manang, you'll start noticing the landscape shifting, the vegetation thinning out, the air feels different, and the whole place takes on a more open, high-altitude character. Manang itself has a distinct charm that's hard to put into words. A great place to land for the night.
Acclimatization day in Manang
Description
There's no rushing this one, and honestly, you won't want to. Spending a full day in Manang is less about killing time and more about letting your body quietly catch up with the altitude before you push any higher. There's plenty to keep you busy: the views over the valley are outstanding, there are lakes and monasteries worth exploring nearby, and if you take the time to chat with locals, you'll come away with a much richer sense of life up here. Take it easy, eat well, and soak it in.
Trek to Yak Kharka
Description
Back on the trail with fresh legs, the path moves through alpine grass and juniper scrub before opening onto wide meadows. You'll likely share the landscape with grazing horses and yaks, which gives the whole place a wonderfully unhurried feel. Yak Kharka is a simple, peaceful spot, with steep slopes on one side and open meadows on the other, and exactly the right kind of place to spend a quiet night before the days ahead.
Trek to Chulu West Peak Base Camp
Description
Today the real mountain atmosphere begins to set in. The trek up to base camp demands steady focus as the altitude starts to make itself felt. The surroundings grow more raw and elemental with every step, and by the time you reach base camp and get the tents pitched, there's a quiet sense of anticipation in the air. An early night here makes a lot of sense.
Ascent to High Camp from Base Camp
Description
The climb from base camp to high camp is a full day's work. It's not technically complicated, but the altitude doesn't let you forget where you are, so the pace stays measured and deliberate. The payoff at high camp is real, sweeping views of the Annapurna ranges and Dhaulagiri stretching out around you, best appreciated with a hot drink and the satisfaction of knowing tomorrow is summit day. Sleep in tents tonight.
Summit Chulu West Peak and back to Base Camp
Description
This is the day everything has been building toward. The summit push starts early, and every step upward carries a mix of effort, focus, and raw excitement. When you finally reach the top of Chulu West, with the Annapurna range laid out before you, it's one of those moments that's hard to properly describe to someone who hasn't been there. Take your time up there. It's earned. The descent back to base camp is long but carries its own kind of energy, the lightness that comes after something genuinely difficult. Overnight at base camp.
Trek From Base Camp to Thorung Phedi
Description
A welcome change of pace today as the trail heads consistently downhill from base camp. It's a gentler day on the body and a good chance to reflect on the climb while the legs get a relative break. About four hours of scenic walking brings you down to Thorung Phedi, sitting at the foot of the famous pass you'll cross tomorrow. Get some rest; you'll want it.
Trek to Muktinath via Thorung La Pass
Description
One of the great days of the entire circuit. Thorung La Pass at 5,416 meters is a serious undertaking, and crossing it east to west is the right way to do it. The climb is long, but the views of Annapurna, Gangapurna, and the glaciated peak of Khatungkang keep you company all the way up. Then comes 1,600 meters of descent with Dhaulagiri appearing on the horizon like something out of a painting. The trail eventually softens into grassy meadows before delivering you to Muktinath, a sacred temple complex with a deeply peaceful atmosphere. A truly full day. Sleep well tonight.
Drive to Jomsom
Description
After breakfast, a scenic drive takes you from Muktinath down to Jomsom with the Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri ranges keeping you company the whole way. The views through the window are almost absurdly good. Jomsom is a lively little mountain town with a proper infrastructure, good food, and comfortable lodges. Enjoy the well-deserved downtime.
Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara
Description
An early morning flight drops you out of the mountains and into the lush Pokhara valley, one of Nepal's most beautiful cities. The aerial views on the way down are stunning. Once you've landed, the afternoon is yours to explore at your own pace: the serene lakeside, Davis Falls, and the old Tibetan market district. Pokhara has a completely different energy from the mountains, and it's a pleasure to ease back into it.
Drive back to Kathmandu
Description
The final leg. After breakfast, the road winds back through villages and river valleys over roughly seven hours to Kathmandu. It's a good stretch of time to sit back, flip through your photos, and let the whole trip settle in your mind. The evening ends with a farewell dinner at a Nepali restaurant, a fitting close to a remarkable journey.
Accommodations
During the Chulu West Peak climbing journey, the type of accommodation changes as you move higher into the mountains. In the lower parts of the Annapurna region, you will stay in local teahouses and small mountain lodges found in villages along the trail. These lodges are simple but comfortable, usually offering twin-bed rooms with basic bedding and warm blankets. They may not be luxurious, but after a long day of trekking, they feel warm and welcoming. Most of these places are run by local families, and their hospitality often becomes one of the most memorable parts of the trip.
As the journey moves closer to the mountain and you reach Chulu West Base Camp and High Camp, accommodation changes to tented camping. At this stage, the climbing crew sets up tents for sleeping, cooking, and dining. Life at the campsite is much simpler, but the experience of staying in tents surrounded by glaciers and towering Himalayan peaks makes it truly special. Nights in the high mountains are quiet and peaceful, and waking up to the sight of snow-covered peaks right outside your tent is something you will never forget.
Food
Food during the Chulu West Peak Climbing trip is simple but filling, giving you the energy needed for long trekking days and the climbing part of the adventure. While trekking through the villages, meals are usually served in the teahouses where you stay. You can expect a variety of dishes such as the traditional dal bhat with rice, lentils, and vegetables, along with noodles, fried rice, soups, potatoes, eggs, and pancakes. These meals are freshly prepared and are perfect for refueling after hours on the trail.
Once you reach the higher camps, the climbing team prepares meals at the campsite. The crew usually cooks warm and hearty food such as soups, rice dishes, pasta, vegetables, and hot drinks like tea or coffee. Even though the menu becomes a bit simpler at higher altitudes, a warm meal after a long day in the mountains always feels incredibly satisfying. Sitting together at the camp, sharing food while surrounded by the vast Himalayan landscape, often becomes one of the most memorable parts of the entire climbing experience.
